The great thing about planning a trip to Anguilla is that the island is both laid back and active at once. Those who prefer to spend their days quietly sailing or on the beach will find what they are looking for, as will the vacationer who is always on the go, seeking out the best shopping deals and the most happening nightlife.
A vacation in the Caribbean just isn't the same without time spent by the seaside. Whether you park your self in the sand of one of Anguilla's 33 beaches, or decide to take a more active approach, there is a lot that can be done in the waters that surround the island. Diving, snorkeling, fishing, and sailing are just a few options.
If you plan to stay active during your Anguilla vacation, but prefer to do it on dry land, there are plenty of available options. Many resorts offer gymnasiums on property, as well as tennis, basketball, and beach volleyball courts. You can also choose to explore the island on foot by walking along the beaches or spending a day on a hiking trail. Golf at one of two golf courses on the island is a possibility as well.
American sports fans will gain appreciation for a new sport when they visit Anguilla: Cricket. Anguillians love cricket, and take it very seriously. Check game schedules while you are on the island and you may be able to catch a game at Ronald Webster Park.
...spend your days shopping, hiking, or out on the water...
Many shoppers associate shopping in the Caribbean with great bargains. Unfortunately, this is not the case in Anguilla. In fact, many visitors find clothing, jewelry, and other items to be overpriced. You'll find your money is best spent on locally hand made crafts and artwork; even if they are expensive, at least they are unique.
Events and Festivals in Anguilla celebrate the history and heritage of the island; this makes attending a festival a great experience for vacationers who want to learn a little more about what is important to islanders. The Summer Festival, which takes place in July and August, is one of the best displays of Anguillian culture; while music lovers will want to be present for the Moonsplash Annual Music Festival in March.
While there are a few dance clubs in Anguilla (and no casinos), nightlife on the island mainly occurs at the resorts. Beach barbecues, theater productions, live music, and dance parties are hosted by various hotels. These events are always open to guests, but many times open to the public as well.
Anguilla is a quiet island with more to do than any vacationer might expect. Whether you spend your days shopping, hiking, or out on the water, your Anguilla vacation can be as laid back or action packed as you want it to be.
